Lo Storico dell’arte Giorgio Vasari, nel XVI secolo, definì il Mosaico “la pittura eterna”.
In quelle poche parole si racchiude l’essenza di questa arte millenaria, perché come la pittura il Mosaico dispone di infinite gamme di vetro colorato, gli smalti di Murano e Venezia oltre ai marmi policromi presenti in natura, ma al contrario della pittura, Il Mosaico ha il dono dell’eternità, perché le tessere di cui è composto non temono il logorio del tempo. Per questo motivo il Mosaico è la forma d’arte più adatta ad abbellire e decorare l’architettura pubblica e privata, può essere pavimentale, parietale o a soffitto, e si adatta ad ogni forma dello spazio.
Spilimbergo è la capitale mondiale del Mosaico Artistico contemporaneo. Cent’anni fa veniva qui eretta la Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, una prestigiosa istituzione che ha formato quelli che oggi sono considerati i migliori Maestri Artigiani Mosaicisti.
